How Do I Find a Study Group?
Pandemics are lonely. As the weather gets colder, and we’re all stuck inside even more than before, it’s easy to lose track of our social life and let our motivation slide. Forming a study group can be helpful for several reasons:
It’s nice to see friends and peers, even if it’s on Zoom
Friends can help motivate you to keep working hard
Learning from friends can help you remember content better
Teaching friends can help you remember content better
Ok, now what? How do you find a study group? Here are a few ways to find a study group.
Make your own study group. Choose a few classmates that you think will work well with you. They don’t have to be your best friends, or even friends at all. Send a nice email or text message explaining your idea and suggest a specific time to meet. If the group is bigger than 3-4 students, it may be difficult to stay focused or find a time you can all meet.
Find another study group. Ask around. See if anyone else is in a study group or is interested in starting one. If you have a friend or classmate who is often organizing group activities, start with them.
Ask your teacher or professor. If you don’t know anyone else in your class or you aren’t comfortable reaching out, ask the teacher to help. Your teacher may be able to connect you with other students who could benefit from a study group or are interested in joining one.
